Professional Development Committee

WACAC’s Professional Development Committee oversees various WACAC events throughout the year, including:

  • New Counselor Institute: A 3-day annual event introducing new admissions professionals to the field, typically held in early August.
  • Professional Development Workshops: Programming for admission and school counselors, covering current trends and changes in higher education, usually held twice a year (fall and spring).
  • Conference Planning: Organizing WACAC's biennial annual conference and assisting with planning the MIDWest biennial conference.

The Professional Development Committee is also responsible for educating WACAC membership about NACAC’s Guide to Ethical Practices in College Admission. The committee is responsible for monitoring trends in ethical practices and ensuring that its members are well-versed in the Guide to Ethical Practices in College Admission. Additionally, the committee engages in discussions to develop strategies for educating its membership and is tasked with implementing various educational programming initiatives. Furthermore, it serves as the primary resource for secondary and post-secondary admission professionals in Wisconsin, providing guidance on ethical admission practices.

Committee members are expected to participate in periodic meetings, WACAC and NACAC meetings, and trainings. They also educate members about ethical standards and best admission practices through initiatives such as webinars, conference presentations, newsletter articles, and school presentations.
