Jackie Morris

Viterbo University

Jackie is an Admissions Counselor at Viterbo University in beautiful La Crosse, Wisconsin.

1. What did you study in college?  Was your plan to enter the higher education world?

I studied Vocal Performance at Viterbo University, and I definitely did not plan to, or know, that I would enter higher education.

2. What inspires you most?

I'm inspired by my colleagues in this field.  They truly care about providing access and support to all students.

3. What is the best part of what you do?

I enjoy getting to know students and their families as they navigate the college search.  I then like seeing these students thrive on-campus.  It is the best part of my job.

4. How has being a member of WACAC helped you?

I benefit from the WACAC Conferences!  I always come away with a new idea and fresh motivation.

5. What is one piece of advice you would give a new admissions counselor or high school counselor?

While it is important to be able to provide all the facts and features of your institution, focus more on getting to know the students you work with.  Hear their excitement and concerns about college and begin your dialogue there.

6. What is an interesting fact about you that has nothing to do with admissions counseling?

I have called both New York City and Seattle home.  Living on both coasts was fun, transformative, and an unexpected fact of my life so far.
